Dynamics of ordering in alloys with modulated phases.

چکیده

This paper presents a theoretical model for studying the dynamics of ordering in alloys which exhibit modulated phases. The model is different from the standard time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau description of the evolution of a non-conserved order parameter and resembles the Swift-Hohenberg model. The early-stage growth kinetics is analyzed and compared to the Cahn-Hilliard theory of continuous ordering. The effects of non-linearities on the growth kinetics are discussed qualitatively and it is shown that the presence of an underlying elastic lattice introduces qualitatively new effects. A lattice Hamiltonian capable of describing these effects and suitable for carrying out simulations of the growth kinetics is also constructed. 64.60.Cn,5.50.+q,82.20.Mj,64.60.My Typeset using REVTEX 1

Kinetics of Ordering in Fluctuation-Driven First-Order Transitions: Simulations and Dynamical Renormalization

Many systems where interactions compete with each other or with constraints are well described by a model first introduced by Brazovskii. Such systems include block copolymers, alloys with modulated phases, Rayleigh-Benard Cells and type-I superconductors. The hallmark of this model is that the fluctuation spectrum is isotropic and has a minimum at a nonzero wave vector represented by the surfa...

GCMC Glauber dynamics study for structural transitions in YBCOx (0<x<1), HTc system

We have chosen an Ising ASYNNNI (ASYmmetric Next Nearest Neighbor Interaction)   model under a grand canonical regime to investigate structural phase transition from a high symmetric tetragonal (Tet) to a low symmetric orthorhombic in YBa2Cu3O6+x , 0<x<1,  HTc system. Ordering process for absorbed oxygens from an external gas bath into the basal plane of the layered system is studied by Monte C...

Ordering process and age-hardening mechanism of CuPd-AuCu pseudo-binary alloys.

Ordering process and age-hardening mechanism of CuPd-AuCu pseudo-binary alloys were examined In alloys with electron-atom ratios (e/a)<0.87, short range ordering was observed in the early stage of aging, thereafter, long range ordering occurred from grain boundaries by heterogeneous ordering mecha nism. Age-hardening of these alloys was attained by the increase in volume fractions of CuPd and/o...

Phase transformations and segregation in Fe–Ni alloys and nanoalloys

Ordering and segregation properties of Fe–Ni alloys and nanoalloys are investigated by means of Metropolis Monte Carlo (MMC) and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. The model is based on an embedded atom potential which, according to thermodynamic integration, only stabilizes those phases that are observed experimentally. This stability is confirmed by MMC and the same phases are found stable ...

The Microstructural Evolution of the Coexistence of Spinodal Decomposition and Ordering in Fe-23al Alloy during Aging

Article history: Received: 28.11.2012. Received in revised form: 04.01.2013. Accepted: 15.01.2013. The microstructural evolution of the coexistence of spinodal decomposition and ordering is characterized by metallographic microscopy and transmission electron microscopy in aged Fe-23Al (i.e. Fe-23at%Al) alloy. This paper discusses a phase transition mechanism of the microstructure evolution. The...
